About

“LR2 – Showcasing an ever growing collection of home recordings, curated with care and affection”

Who we are

Music fans, music obsessives, musicians, consumers and purchasers of music (both live and recorded).

The music we promote

In the late 70s/80s there was a thriving scene in home recording – mostly produced and distributed on cassette. Artists weren’t tied to record companies that would directly or indirectly try to influence how a band operated. Nor were they limited by the amount of studio time they could afford or the whims of producers or engineers who might not understand what they were trying to achieve.

In the 21st century the quality of equipment available to those recording at home is way beyond that of the cassette era, and digital distribution makes it easier to reach a larger and geographically more diverse audience, but we think the core creative advantages of home recording remain the same.

How you can support us

(1) Spread the word!

Share links with your friends (and the world) via your social media platforms of choice. Or just tell your mates down the pub, local book group, or wherever else the cool kids hang out these days.

(2) Subscribe

If our YouTube channel only has one subscriber, they feel lonely. If there’s only two, they may feel obligated to meet up once a year and try and bond over their love of obscure music. Get it up to four and at least you can all gather together for a game of bridge. Double figures and the world is your oyster!

On a more practical level, subscribing to YouTube and following us on Bandcamp means you’ll be notified whenever we release new content.

(3) Buy stuff!

Amazingly it does take time and money to produce our products. We pay musicians who guest on certain tracks, we pay for web space and hosting, and we pay for the equipment (both physical and virtual) that enables us to make these recordings.

Our Bandcamp page allows you to stream and download all our releases for free. When downloading products you will also have the option to make a payment (of a sum of your choosing) which will enable us to make and release more new music. All support for artists and products are gratefully received. Wherever possible we also aim to include exclusive content for those who download our products.

(4) Leave feedback

Heard something you like? Let us and – more importantly – the bands involved know if you enjoyed any of our releases. Also, leaving a written comment on Bandcamp is a great way to flag to other people that a piece of music is worthy of their attention.

And finally

If you have any further questions, comments or feedback, you can contact us directly via music [at] lr2.co.uk. We are not currently looking to sign new artists – if you’re out there making music yourself, chances are you’ll be every bit as good as us at marketing and promoting what you do. Also, we’d hate to have the ignominy of discovering the next ‘Pet Sounds’ and then only managing to sell 15 copies of it. (Who are we kidding? If we sold 15 copies of anything it would be a miracle!)
